This was Ian’s very first film. It was inspired by a short film he saw on YouTube. He had a lot of help from the other film class students!

This ‘show box’ or portable theater is Devon’s original concept and design.
It features storage for backdrops and floor panels that can be inserted to create unique worlds.

Sarah had a dream about flying in her bed over a city at night with her dog.
She drew the scene and then created this wonderful diorama.

Steven has created several great comic strip characters. But for his first project he chose to build a diorama of the factory/home of Bupim’s Nemesis.

Has anyone read this book? I just ordered it from Amazon based on Kim Stagliano’s post at Huffington Post “Boy Alone. But Not for Long.”
I know sibling relationships in families with autistic children are really tough. Our son Ian is an only child which is certainly easier now but a source of long term fear: Ian will far outlive us. For families where their autistic children have siblings the reality is this: your child’s siblings will be the longest relationships in your child’s life.
I know we have several siblings of students in the workshops who say “I’d like to build something…” We’re working hard to have room to add sibling workshops and even workshops where siblings can do things together.

Reminder: No Workshops this weekend – Memorial Day Holiday
(We will be home if you want to drop in and work on your project – just give us a call first, please)
Last weekend’s workshops were amazing – exhausting but amazing.
Lots of progress was made on the projects in Dan’s Friday and Sunday Build Stuff Workshops. Phoebe finished painting one of the horses and got an undercoat on the next one. Ramses II is really taking shape. Kris’ machine gun now has shoulder brace and is actually looking like a gun. Ross is learning to solder and to create wonderful geometric shapes out of brass. Corey made a mock-up of his diorama – the parade scene from the movie, Milk.
On Sunday we welcomed our newest recruit to Autistry Studios – Carissa. She proved herself to be a true member when she arrived with a drawing of a sword based on the weapon of an anime character! She made a mock up in wood and we have ordered aluminum for the blade. Nick is nearly finished with the structure for his new model train layout and will soon be working on the landscaping. Peter and Dan worked together to build storage carts for all the excess lumber around here. They will also build roll around cabinets for us.
Nate’s Saturday Filmmaking Workshop was an exercise in managing chaos. Everyone chipped in to help Wesley film Shack’s Shack. The computer room was transformed into a bar and Wesley was transformed into several outrageous characters (you must look at the photos this week!!). We were very impressed with how well everyone worked together and put aside their own projects to help Wesley. Next session we will all crew for the other students.
Also – for those who want to continue on with Nate’s Filmmaking in July please let us know as we are putting together the class lists now. We will open additional workshops in July if we need to but we’d like to plan ahead for this. Here is the info for the summer film workshop:
